Comfort Clothing: All Black Everything

“If you never try, you would never see…See I fell asleep, and I had a dream – it was all black everything”

The photographer, Kat of The Unsuspended Photography, asked me what my favorite color is, as we wrapped up our photo session. The first thing that came to my mind was black–possibly because it is typically the most figure-flattering. I then started to consider if that was even my favorite color, or was it just something that I had grown comfortable with over the years.

Black is a color that is always pushed on plus size women because it is safe. I must admit that I do have a lot of black in my wardrobe. It is only now, when the fashion world and society now accommodates bigger body types that I am able to dress with more freedom. Although, somehow, I still ended up in black.

I think I will always have a soft spot for black–there is something so comforting and classic about an all black outfit. It just works, every time.

As “find myself,” I realize that I’ve actually always known who I am. Sometimes the world likes to define us, and it is hard not to believe and embody the messages being thrown at us–at least for me sometimes. I have to remind myself that I “is kind, smart, and important.” Starting my career and this blog has shown me that listening to winner 2myself can bring the most amazing opportunities and feelings to the surface. As momentum picks up, and I grow wiser and happier each day, my heart tells me to keep going, as I have been this past year. And, for all that do not know my story it goes a little something like this: I quit my job, picked up another job, quit that job, then picked up the velocity with my freelance career, which lead to an amazing career opportunity and my present full-time job. The workflow has never been better. Not only do I have a nice career-launching position, but I have a new self-perspective and confidence in my abilities. This experience showed me that I do not have to be unhappy, and that my weight and my race will not hold me back, unless I let that happen.

I am still on my journey. Young enough to make mistakes and cry over things that do not matter, but old enough to know that each moment of life should be taken advantage of and fully-appreciated.
